Chancery Lane
Chancery Lane, located behind Victoria Prison, was named after a street in west London. The Court of Chancery was located there, as well as many law firms and related institutions, including one of the four oldest law schools of England – the Lincoln’s Inn, which specialized in training barristers. Naming the lane “Chancery” could have been a promise by the colonial government to ensure fair legal representation for all individuals standing trial. The enclosing walls there have existed since 1851.
