Chung Wai Ming Recalls His Sixty Years in Radio
Chung Wai Ming’s radio career, which began in 1947 when he was only 17, extended over six decades. Over the years, he had worked at different radio stations in Hong Kong, served in different capacities in the broadcasting industry as well as taken part in different types of radio programmes. In this track, he recalls how he first entered radio work and his first audition; in 1949, he joined the newly established Rediffusion Company. Later, he joined the United States Information Services (USIS) but continued to participate in radio programmes at Commercial Radio and Radio Hong Kong as a freelance. In 1970, he finally joined Radio Hong Kong fulltime. Hearing him recall his over 60 years of broadcasting experience, one not only discovers the richness of one broadcaster’s life but also learns a substantial lesson on the history of Hong Kong’s broadcasting.
