Chung Wai Ming Recalls his Childhood in Wanchai
Chung Wai Ming was born in Hong Kong, and throughout his childhood, the family lived at 257 Wanchai Road in Wanchai. Here, he recalls with relish the streets and buildings in the neighborhood. He enjoys talking about his favourite pastime-- playing football with his young neighbours. When the Japanese occupied Hong Kong from late 1941, his family faced such financial hardship that he, the eldest son but just a child, was forced to find work to help out. After the war, he made several attempts to join the movie industry, but later, quite by accident, he stumbled onto radio work and spent the rest of his life in the field.
