OBSERVATIONS | The woman next door did not have piped water, and she laboriously filled her water tank from the nearby well. The new year charm ensured that good luck would attend those who drank the water. I was one of them, because each day she would kindly bring me a vacuum flask full of hot boiled well water, my regular drink throughout my stay. It was referred to by the villagers as “tea”, and could not have tasted better even if there had been tea-leaves in it. |
