OBSERVATIONS |
The terrace was the frontmost of this hamlet, and it looked out over the fields to hills about four kilometres away. This made the houses vulnerable to wandering evil spirits, and the wall was built across the front to keep them out. It is well known that these spirits can only travel in straight lines, so even if they were to slip between the wall and the houses they are unable to turn to enter the doors. the terraces behind this did not need a wall because they were protected by the properties in front of them. |
