OBSERVATIONS I rented the second from the right of this terrace of six houses. All six were owned by Lius who were brothers and first cousins. To protect the inhabitants from any evil spirits who might be tempted to enter, there were no windows at the front (some had a tiny window at the back). To protect against human intrusion, the double doors were the only way in and out, and they were barred at night with a sturdy log of wood wedged into slots across the inside.
