Death-Burial Urns

Burial urns

Burial urns

Place:Sheung Shu
Date:1964-04-05
Observation:It is expected that the family will eventually, after ten years or so, exhume the bones of their ancestor and arrange them in a burial urn, sealed with a double lid. The urn is left on the hillside, where it is tended at Ching Ming, as this group of urns has been. The white paper money scattered around is of the kind used to buy off the attentions of evil spirits. Some urns are sealed into small brick or concrete housings, and it is probable that this will be their final resting place, but ideally the urns are still awaiting permanent burial in a geomantically sited grave.
