The remaining part of Tai Wan Hill was removed piecemeal since the 1950s for the development of Hung Hom Road, Tai Wan Shan Estate (the former Hung Hom Estate), Whampoa Estate and Whampoa Park (the former Hutchison Park, put up by Whampoa Dock). The fill material so collected was used for the reclamation of land around Hung Hom Train Station and Cross-Harbour Tunnel during the 1950s and 1960s. Without further expansion, the eastern coast of Hung Hom bounding on the industrial district remained much the same as it was before and after the Second World War. It was in the 1980s, when Whampoa Dock, CLP and Green Island Cement departed in succession, that the site was developed into a residential district upon a series of reclamation. The most famous estate in the area is Whampoa Garden.

Reclamation for the Hung Hom residential district (with waterfront commercial use) continued from the 1990s to 2000s. Large pieces of land were created to develop Hung Hom Bypass and other new residential estates, such as Harbour Place, Harbourview Horizon and Harbourfront Horizon. After more than a hundred year of pulling down and building up, the skeleton of Tai Wan Hill puts Hung Hom in shape, and the scattered bits of it is now supporting a vital part of the Hung Hom land. Thank you so much for being the foundation of such a beautiful community!
