In 1965, Wong Jum-sum began to host the cultural programme The Youth Club on Rediffusion TV. Wong Jim, his chosen stage name, became a household title. Subsequently Wong used that stage name to act on stage and in films, write lyrics, compose songs, write newspaper columns, experiencing many ‘first-time’ happenings in life. In 1967, Hong Kong saw riots. It also saw the opening of TVB. Afterwards, Wong Jim, together with a whole generation of youngsters, boldly stepped into an era fatefully and perpetually torn by the fears of political destruction and the glamour of popular cultural creation.
